Ranges Open to the Public: Texas questions

How many public-access ranges are listed in Texas?

21, checked October 11, 2026.

Which Texas county has the most public-access ranges?

Tarrant County, with 2.

Do public-access ranges in Texas take walk-in shooters?

21 of the 21 listings say the public is welcome, 0 say members only, and the rest do not state it.

Why are so few Texas ranges marked public?

The directory text behind this list rarely says who may shoot. Only listings that state public access in plain words get the mark; the rest are not members-only, just unconfirmed.

Are city-owned ranges open to everyone?

Places such as Elm Fork in Dallas and American Shooting Centers in Houston sell daily range time to the public; check each range’s own site for current fees.

Does TPWD operate any of these?

No. TPWD runs no public target range of its own: its shooting sports page lists hunter education, youth programs and a mobile sporting clays trailer, and its Target Range Grant Program pays up to 90% of the cost for cities, counties, clubs and businesses that build ranges open to the public.

How do I sort public-access ranges by distance?

Press the location button near the top, or pick a county from the menu to sort from its center.

What should I bring?

Ear and eye protection, a cased and unloaded firearm, ammunition the range permits and your own targets.
