How buying a gun online works in Tennessee
1. Pick the gun online
Order from the retailer and choose a Tennessee FFL dealer near you at checkout.
2. It ships to the dealer
Guns cannot ship to a home address. The dealer receives it and calls you.
3. Background check
At the dealer you fill out ATF Form 4473 and the dealer runs the background check. Dealers charge a transfer fee.
4. Ammo and gear ship direct
Ammunition and accessories ship to your home in Tennessee; an adult signature is often required for ammo.
Federal transfer rules summarized from ATF guidance and retailer shipping policies, checked October 2026. Ask your dealer about their fee before you order.
