Georgia Legal Shooting Hours

A county picker that works out the week’s legal hunting light in your browser, the WRD rule for game and for migratory birds, the night hunting exceptions for hogs, coyotes and coons, and the noon close on WMA duck impoundments.

Pick a Georgia county, see the week

Change the county and the seven days below redraw. Duck, goose and dove hunters stop at the sunset time shown, not the later close.

Choose a county and the next seven days of sunrise, sunset and the half-hour legal window appear, worked out in your browser for the middle of that county.

Times are computed for each county’s Census internal point in Eastern time. The guide prints no table and points hunters to the Outdoors GA app. Sources: WRD hunting information, checked October 13, 2026.

How far legal light shifts across Georgia

Sorted east to west. Dade County, the farthest west, sees sunrise about 18 minutes after Chatham County, the farthest east, so legal light both opens and closes later on the western side of the state.

Georgia shooting hour questions

What time can I start hunting in Georgia?

Thirty minutes before sunrise, for every game animal and bird, migratory birds included.

When does legal hunting end for deer?

Thirty minutes after sunset. Turkey, bear and small game follow the same window.

Do dove hunters get the extra half hour?

No. Doves, ducks, geese and all other migratory birds stop at sunset.

Why do WMA duck hunts end at noon?

Duck hunting on managed WMA impoundments ends at noon, except the last Saturday of the season (until sunset).

After dark, where can Georgia hunters chase hogs?

On private land, day or night, with any legal weapon. WMAs and national forest land allow no night hog hunting.

Which animals can be hunted at night?

Alligators, raccoons, opossums, foxes, coyotes, bobcats and feral hogs, with the public land limits for hogs and coyotes.

Does Georgia print a sunrise table?

No. The guide refers hunters to the Outdoors GA app; the county picker on this page computes the same window in your browser.

Is alligator hunting limited to daylight?

No. Quota permit holders may hunt alligators day or night during the season.
