WRD lists 136 entries on its WMA list, and every one has a page here; the 2026-27 regulations hold 170 WMA, VPA and state park listings plus 19 federal listings, each matched to a page. Acres overlap where a WMA sits on national forest or Corps land, so the column is not a statewide total.

Counts from the WRD WMA list, the 2026-27 regulation listings and federal manager pages as recorded in lands.json (retrieved 2026-10-13); deer from WRD Game Check.

Georgia public land questions

Adding it all up, how big is Georgia's public hunting estate?

The Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forests alone hold 869,017 acres of Forest Service land; WRD areas, VPA leases and state park hunts add 1,143,573 published acres, some of it overlapping federal land.

Which WRD areas are largest?

Cohutta WMA (92,647 acres), Cedar Creek WMA (41,000 acres) and Redlands WMA (37,500 acres).

Which areas report the most deer?

Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forests (1,531 in 2025-26), Redlands WMA (425 in 2025-26) and Oconee Ranger District (Oconee National Forest) (385 in 2025-26), by Game Check reports.

Do I need a WMA license?

No. It was dropped in 2017. Anyone 16 or older entering a WMA or PFA needs a Georgia hunting or fishing license or a Georgia Lands Pass.

Do I have to sign in on a WMA?

Yes for bear, deer and turkey hunts: sign in online on Go Outdoors Georgia, available from the day before.

Can I hunt in Georgia state parks?

Only in the 13 parks that hold listed hunts, most of them quota hunts with a park fee.

Is baiting allowed on public land?

No. Baiting game or feral hogs is illegal on all state and federally managed land, even though it is legal on private land with permission.

Which sources feed this Georgia list?

WRD area pages, GIS layers and the 2026-27 regulation listings, Forest Service, Fish and Wildlife Service, Park Service, Army and Corps pages, checked October 13, 2026.
